OFFICER'S RETREAT
Over the summer, the new Tenino chapter officers met at a lake house on Lake Nuwatzul for an officer's retreat. The officers took a few days to get away and plan out the year. They enjoyed the lake and a few team building exercises between planning sessions. During this time, they not only figured out a map of activities , but also bonded as a team. THURSTON COUNTY FAIR
In early August, members of the Tenino FFA attended the week long Thurston County Fair. These students showed various animals and some had the chance to sell the animals they brought during the fair's auction. Pigs, goats, sheep, cows, and rabbits were the animals being shown by the Tenino FFA. Nearly all of them were auctioned and sold at the end of the fair. The members who attended had to work hard not only during the week of fair, but also in the months leading up to it. They were required to care for and train their animals in addition to contacting potential buyers. Their hard work definitely paid off! A few individuals received blue ribbons for their efforts. Krystal Glenn, showing her rabbit, won Grand Champ! Terran Gilbreath earned Reserve Grand Champ in the senior showing class with his pig. Winning Grand Champ in his novice showing class was Riley Noonan, a first time pig showman. Due to their accomplishments, these individuals were able to move up into the Round Robin competition, where they had to show goats, pigs, sheep, cows, and rabbits. Each competitor did well in this as well. Also during the fair, students were required to participate in livestock judging and herds duty. Livestock judging included judging a class of ewes, market lambs, market pigs, sows, dairy cows, and beef cows. Herds duty required students to spend multiple shifts outside their respective barns interacting with the public, answering questions, and keeping the stalls and walkways clean. Overall, each member of Tenino FFA tried their best and hopefully got the results they were working towards. |
PUYALLUP FAIR
Towards the middle of the month, members of the Tenino FFA went to the Washington State Fair to compete in the livestock judging contest. The team, as well as individuals, took home multiple awards. One team that competed was awarded third place overall. In individual scoring, Molly Eckardt earned first place! Also in individual scoring, Jayda Jessie received eighth place. This group should be quite proud to have done so well while competing against many other chapters. Baily Fisher showed her Brahman cows during this fair as well. ICE-CREAM SOCIAL MEETING
On Wednesday, September 18th, the Tenino FFA held the first of their monthly meetings. Along with hosting an ice-cream social during the meeting, the chapter officers used the time to talk to attendees about the events that they participate in. Present members, potential recruits and parents were informed about past events and things happening in the near future. Overall, the Tenino FFA kick started the year with this meeting and definitely hopes to see you at the next one! DLC
On the weekend of September 21st, members of the Tenino FFA participated in District Leadership Camp at the Shiloh Church in Brooklyn, WA. Hosted by the District Three FFA officers, this camp was composed of two days filled with team building exercises and workshops focusing on the theme "Influence. Impact. Change.". The meaning of these three words were not only taught, but also experienced throughout the leadership camp. Students were able to mingle with others from District Three and learn more ways to be a better leader. BLUE AND GOLD TOUR
Members of the Tenino FFA attended the Blue and Gold Tour held at Rochester High School on Wednesday, September 25th. The Washington State FFA officers and District Three FFA officers put together this event of workshops, fun icebreakers, and a BBQ. Members got to explore what it means to be a positive influence on others. They also were able to dig down deep inside and discover their own personal brand that they want to leave on others. |
UPCOMING
This week we are working on our annual Homecoming Float. Being such and amazing, involved club means we have the opportunity to design, build, and ride on our very own FFA float in Homecoming parade. The float committee will meet this week to plan and work on the float. Remember, if you don't help create the float, you cannot ride on it. See Mrs. Maxfield for more information.
